The Birth Of Video Games- History
Thomas T. Goldsmith Jr. and Estle Ray Mann invented the Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device, which laid to the birth of the legacy of video games we know today. Video games today are made with more resources, complex codes, etc. But initially Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device was considered a computer to show games on a cathode ray tube monitor. It was not a proper video game but was played with a joystick to aim at targets to collect dots by moving a spot of light.

The innovation of Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device started the foundation for all the researchers and inventors to develop new and more sophisticated video games.
After this innovation many important early video games created like Bertie the Brain(1950 by Joseph Weizenbaum) and Nimrod(1951 by Ferranti) which became huge hits back in those days which popularized the idea and potential of using video games for entertainment purpose.
In the mid-1950s video games like Spacewar(1962 by a student group of MIT) which was a 2-player space combat game that was played on a PDP-1 computer started appearing in commercial arcades with many more. This laid to the beginning of a new era of video game development. After this many new video game companies were founded and new arcade video games were released.

Late 1960s and early 1970s were the best time for video games as it started getting available commercially in large amounts and addition to arcade video games. 1970 saw the release of the first home video game consoles like the Magnavox Odyssey which was the first home video game console released in 1972.
